DESCRIPTION:Join UW-Stevens Point Extension Lakes outreach specialist Paul Skawinski at Lake Joanis to explore what goes on below the surface. Participants will enjoy a relaxing paddle on Lake Joanis while learning about the lake’s water\, sediment\, and aquatic life. Paul will demonstrate a variety of lake sampling tools that are used to study lakes and monitor their conditions.  \n\n\n\nPaul Skawinski is a Statewide Lakes Outreach Specialist on the UW-Stevens Point Extension Lakes team. He also teaches Aquatic Botany at UWSP and is the author of Aquatic Plants of the Upper Midwest: a photographic field guide to our underwater forests. \n\n\n\nThis program is free and is open to members of the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve. Registration is required; please reserve your spot here. \n\n\n\nThe program will meet at the accessible fishing pier on the south side of Lake Joanis. Parking is available on Maria Drive.

DESCRIPTION:The Moses Creek Meadow is one of the largest sedge meadow wetlands remaining intact and still mostly free from weedy invasive species remaining in Wisconsin. The new boardwalk provides a rare opportunity to visit this important ecological community easily and without doing damage to it. Join UW-Stevens Point professor emeritus Dr. Robert Freckmann to explore the plants and communities at Moses Creek Meadows. \n\n\n\nDr. Robert Freckmann is an emeritus professor of biology at UW-Stevens Point. Dr. Freckmann joined the UW-Stevens Point faculty in 1968 where he taught botany for over 30 years. \n\n\n\nThis program is free and is open to members of the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve. Join UWSP’s new ungulate ecologist\, Dr. Monet Gomes Goethlich\, to discover the purpose and biology behind deer antlers. \n\n\n\nDr. Monet Gomes Goethlich is a new faculty member and ungulate ecologist in the College of Natural Resources. She is originally from Fresno\, California and earned her B.S. in Biology at Fresno State University. She earned an M.S. and recently completed her Ph.D. at Auburn University\, where she researched white-tailed deer testosterone\, antlers\, and sexual selection. Since moving to Point\, she has taught Ungulate Ecology and Management and Wildlife Techniques and is a committee member of Wisconsin’s Elk Advisory Board. \n\n\n\nThe program is free and all ages are welcome.
