To celebrate\, the grand opening event will be held at the Menzel Pavilion to recognize donors and volunteers who made these projects possible. After the grand opening ceremony\, take a guided hike to see these updated and new features. Light refreshments will be served\, and the event will be held rain or shine.

SUMMARY:Guided Nature Hike: Moses Creek Meadows
DESCRIPTION:Meander through Moses Creek Meadows with a naturalist from Schmeeckle Reserve and get to know the birds\, bugs\, and blossoms that call the area home. We will meet at the Yulga Disc Golf Course parking lot and walk to the site on the Green Circle trail. Please dress for the weather and conditions; the hike will be about a mile and a half and will include habitats like a pine plantation\, conifer-hardwood forests\, and sedge meadow wetlands. \n\n\n\nThis program is free and no registration is required. All ages are welcome. \n\n\n\nParking available at Yulga Disc Golf Course (4551 Wojcik Memorial Dr\, Stevens Point\, WI 54482).

SUMMARY:Limnology paddle on Lake Joanis - Members Only Event
DESCRIPTION:Join UW-Stevens Point Extension Lakes outreach specialist Paul Skawinski at Lake Joanis to explore what goes on below the surface. Participants will enjoy a relaxing paddle on Lake Joanis while learning about the lake’s water\, sediment\, and aquatic life. Paul will demonstrate a variety of lake sampling tools that are used to study lakes and monitor their conditions.  \n\n\n\nPaul Skawinski is a Statewide Lakes Outreach Specialist on the UW-Stevens Point Extension Lakes team. He also teaches Aquatic Botany at UWSP and is the author of Aquatic Plants of the Upper Midwest: a photographic field guide to our underwater forests. \n\n\n\nThis program is free and is only open to members of the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve. Registration is required; please reserve your spot here. \n\n\n\nThe program will meet at the accessible fishing pier on the south side of Lake Joanis. Parking is available on Maria Drive.
