Schmeeckle Reserve is home to many deer, and this year, many fawns. Young fawns are relatively helpless, which is why they have many strategies to stay alive, most effectively, staying still. If you see a fawn on its own, it is probably fine. Its mother will return to nurse later, but it is safer for her to forage away from the fawn.

The accessible paved walkway project is moving right along! The concrete has been poured on the south side of the Green Circle Trail, providing a smooth surface down to the amphitheater stage and to the top of the hill.

The next phase of the project begins today, Tuesday, June 16. The access trail between the parking lot/trailhead and the Menzel Pavilion will be CLOSED for paving for about two weeks. The Green Circle Trail adjacent to the amphitheater will be reopened for use. A detour will be posted around the visitor center for people to access the trail system and the Menzel Pavilion from the trailhead. See the map below for details.

A special thank you to the Seramur Family Foundation and the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, whose generous gifts are making this accessibility project possible!

We appreciate your patience while the project continues. If you have any questions, feel free to message us or call at 715-346-4992.

We just got a school of new fish plush in the Gift Shop at Schmeeckle Reserve. There are 13 to choose from. Each comes in small or large - but there is only one of each! Which of these species have you caught in Lake Joanis?

Join Schmeeckle Reserve naturalist Griffin Bray on Saturday June 20 from 10:00-11:00 a.m. for a meander through Moses Creek Meadows to get to know the birds, bugs, and blossoms that call the area home. The hike will be about 1.5 miles through habitats including a pine plantation, conifer-hardwood forests, and sedge meadow wetlands.

All ages are welcome! This program is free and no registration is required. We will meet at the Yulga Disc Golf parking lot (4551 Wojcik Memorial Dr., Stevens Point) and walk to the site on the Green Circle trail. Dress for the weather.
