Who’s Summering at Schmeeckle?

text by Barbara Dixson, photos by Rae Henneman

If you glance back over prior blog posts, you’ll find a number which feature photos by Rae Henneman. As a student member of the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve board, Rae has brought energy, great ideas, and other students to the work we do. Her artwork and photos lurk around the Visitor Center, and the materials published by the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve have several times featured a Rae Henneman photo. Rae is moving towards her senior year as a wildlife major here at UWSP. Her love for her subject sings out of the images she shares with us.

Pictured above: wood frog

Great Horned Owl owlet peeks over a branch charmingly.

American Woodcock–have you heard them peent in the Zimmerman Meadow in spring?

Painted turtle. You know it’s really summer when sunshine fills the turtle seats on a log.

Slug. I didn’t know slugs could be beautiful.

Adult Great Horned Owl gives a menacing glare.

Yellow-Rumped Warbler. Check out their musical songs, too.

Garter snake gives the photographer a questioning sniff.

Mallard duckling, a familiar sight.
