Engineering Wizards with Tiny Screwdrivers

by Jerry Lineberger

The assembly of the Life Member plaque installation is complete. The board authorized the project and the location of the plaques last year.  The project was funded by two anonymous donors.  Jim Buchholz did the design work and coordinated with Point Trophy of Stevens Point on the manufacturing process. The board recommended that we purchase name plates separate from the actual plaques with installation to be done by the Friends.

Intrepid board members Ron Zimmerman, Dr. Michael Gross, and Jerry Lineberger volunteered to install the 140 name plates. With approximately 220 years of aggregate experience on the planet, these three individuals brought their large fingers and tiny screwdrivers to the festivities. Over two days these engineering wizards valiantly affixed name plates and engaged in jaunty banter.  Their dexterity was matched only by the amazing accuracy of their eyesight!

The plates are installed based on the order in which the person became a Life Member. All proceeds from Life Membership are deposited to the Friends Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin in Stevens Point.

The Life Member plaque installation is located in the entryway lobby of the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center.  Life Members are also recognized on the Life Membership page of the Friends website. If your name is among those installed on the plaque, please stop by and get a photo for posterity and your family! If not, we welcome your support of the Friends with the addition of your name to the circle of Life Members.

Schmeeckle Maintenance Supervisor, Jake McNulty, makes sure the plaque display is level during installation.
