Arts Contest! Entry Deadline December 8

by Barbara Dixson

The annual Friends of Schmeeckle Writing, Art, and Photo Contest has inspired many beautiful works of art over the decade it’s been underway. It’s also made a space for those who see and appreciate Schmeeckle Reserve in very different ways to open those perspectives to others. After browsing some of the images posted on the Friends website from past years, I’ve put up just a few here, to spark your imagination as you create your entry for this year’s contest. Above: a photo by Ian Vierck.

Here’s a link to information about the contest, which has another link to the entry form: https://friendsofschmeeckle.org/arts-contest/

Carol Jean Watkins took a walk around the Reserve, sketching as she went.

Brett Doran met up with this small creature, who seems to be conversing with him.

In a contemplative mood, Mike Houlihan composed this poem, and his granddaughter illustrated it.

Carsten Mueller caught this transient beauty.

A couple of years ago, when Tessa Burkhart was already an artist if a young one, she observed this little guy at a meal.
